Post number two. Here I have Tobias’ work from OUTLANDER‘s premiere episode titled Sassenach. This was a pretty good start for a new series. This was also where I discovered a new side to Tobias Menzies. Something I’d not seen of him when he played Edmure Tully in GAME OF THRONES. I’m only saddened this site is so late in getting up as I really wish I could have given his fans somewhere to go to find stuff on him. Ah well, as Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) would say, “Dinna fash.”

“The Terror”: Real Versus Reel
While I’m working on screencapping Tobias’ work on both OUTLANDER and THE TERROR I thought it would be interesting to find out the truth of what happened during the fated Franklin Expedition. Being a huge history buff much like Frank Randall, I really thought some information about the real expedition would be fascinating to post. There is a channel on Youtube called History Buffs. This channel deconstructs films and shows using history or historical facts to either debunk, demystify, or outright blow a hole in these reel versions of real history. I agree with the creator in there was no need to create a monster to haunt and stalk the crew members of The Erebus and The Terror. The conditions in which the men lived were horrific enough, and the depths of the depravity they had to stoop to in order to survive. Dan Simmons’ book was fantastic in its attention to detail, however, writing it more from a historical perspective rather than a fictional one would have been, at least I think, more practical to show what those of the Franklin Expedition went through in terms of those years trying to forge history. Yeah, I’m that much of a nerd. And just like OUTLANDER where I see some things truly lacking in Diana Gabaldon’s writing, I wish Simmons had just written the book and allowed the supernatural elements to rest on that tundra. If anyone is interested in an actual historical film based on fact with no ooga booga please check out the A&E film Shackleton starring Sir Kenneth Branagh and directed by Charles Sturridge. The mini-series is excellent and the production values pre-GAME OF THRONES are exceptional.
Flashback Friday: Tobias “Outlander” Interview From 2014
Because I was late in putting this site up, I missed out on Tobias’ OUTLANDER work including interviews for the show. Here Tobias talks about the show and his two characters of Frank Randall and Captain Black Jack Randall. He discusses the challenges of working in Scotland, explains he had his first love scene with Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser) that in effect popped his on-screen cherry, about filming the scenes in Wentworth Prison with Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) and teeth. It’s a cute interview.
Trailer for “Carmilla” Atmospheric
Some more information on CARMILLA.
Atmospheric first trailer released for Carmilla
Republic Film Distribution has dropped an atmospheric new trailer for the coming-of-age love story ‘Carmilla’.
The film is an atmospheric, coming-of-age love story steeped in eerie mystery; a reimagining of Sheridan La Fanu’s 19th-century novella of the same name. 15-year-old Lara (Hannah Rae) lives with her father (Greg Wise) and her strict governess, Miss Fontaine (Jessica Raine), in total isolation and is struggling to find an outlet for her curiosity and burgeoning sexuality. When a carriage crash nearby brings a young girl into the family home to recuperate, Lara is enchanted by the eponymous Carmilla (Devrim Lingnau).
Emily Harris makes her solo directorial debut, newcomers Hannah Rae and Devrim Lingnau star alongside Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife), Tobias Menzies (The Crown) and Greg Wise (The Crown).
The Victoria and Albert Museum, where writer-director Emily Harris is a Curator of the Theatre and Performance Department, will host a London Premiere screening on 24th March 2020.
A Regional Premiere will take place at the Depot Cinema, Lewes on 31st March 2020. The film was shot on location in and around Lewes and Plumpton, East Sussex.
The film hits cinemas release April 3rd.

“Game of Thrones” Season Eight Uploads
In the last of Tobias’ GAME OF THRONES episodes, Edmure has finally made it out of the Frey dungeon and is now Lord of Riverrun. In his only appearance Edmure takes part in the second Dragon Pit summit to name a new King of The Seven Kingdoms. While it was amazing seeing Tobias again, season eight is a dud for me. All the out of character depictions and the dumb writing did nothing for me in terms of wrapping up one of the most amazing shows on television with a huge letdown.
